The province
of Almería is mainland Europe's warmest
and sunniest region, claiming 320 days,
over 3000 hours, of sunshine a year. The
average annual temperature is 18º and
during the summer the average is 24.6º.
Warm winters are taken for granted and heating
is seldom required.
The Costa de Almería is as varied
as any of the Spanish Coasts. The coastline
is completely un-spoilt. To the east of
Almeria you can find the rugged coast of
the Cabo de Gata - Nijar natural park.
West of Almería are the highly developed
tourist resorts of Roquetas de Mar and Aguadulce.
These have all the facilities of any modern
resort to support the package holiday market.
Here, you will also find the resort of Almerimar
with its marinas, established golf course,
hotels and many other facilities.
Although a favourite destination for residents
from Central and Northern Spain, until recently
the province has been less accessible than
some other Spanish destinations, a fact
which has undoubtedly helped to shield it
from the excess of tourism allowing it to
remain the unspoilt, peaceful place it is
today. The province is steeped in history
which can be dated back to Phoenician times
and before, a past reflected in its picturesque
towns and villages. The whole area, with
its natural coastline, beautiful beaches,
national parks, mountains and valleys provides
an overwhelming sense of space, offering
an exiting new world to be explored by the
more adventurous.
Overall, Almería offers a diverse
landscape with some excellent beaches, beautiful
countryside, some of the best golf courses
in Europe and a wealth of history. Once
you have visited this area you will almost
certainly wish to return.
Residential tourism on the Costa de Almería
Over the last few years residential tourism
has become more and more popular and increasing
numbers of tourists and their families are
now seeking a place in which they can stay
for long periods throughout the year.
The mixture of a warm climate, relaxation
and superb leisure activities is enough
to keep many people coming back each year
and many European visitors only have to
visit a few times before they realise the
benefits a second home in the Costa de Almería
could bring to their lives. Golf, is just
one of the excellent leisure pursuits on
offer, with an outstanding range of courses
to be experienced all along the coast (see
corresponding section). The natural surroundings
and the increasing variety of protected
areas are also considered an important element
for those who live on the Costa de Almería.
The vibrant character of the South of Spain
is one of the main reasons people choose
to come and live here, but also importantly,
the knowledge that the country is subject
to the same rules and regulations that EC
imposes on any other European country, is
reassuring to the residential tourist. The
Costa de Almería is dynamic in its
development and continues to meet the expectations
of its visitors. At any given moment there
is a wealth of newly developed properties
suitable for buying or renting.
